Damen Priestley Dume (born 2 December 1984), known professionally as Duprie, is a Cameroonian singer and songwriter best known for his musical work in the Afrobeats, Afropop, Afro swing and R&B genres.[1] He began his career as a recording artist in 2021, with the release of self-produced debut single "Pull Up".

Early life and education[edit]

Duprie was born on December 2, 1984 and raised in the city of Kumba in the Southwest region of Cameroon. His passion for listening and writing music began in secondary school with influences drawn most notably from Michael Jackson, Richard Bona and R. Kelly.[2]

Duprie attended secondary school at Government Bilingual High School in the city of Kumba in the Southwest region of Cameroon and later transferred to Bilingual Grammar School in the city of Buea, also in the Southwest region of Cameroon.[3] He later moved to the United States where he attended Brown University.[4]

Career[edit]

In 2018 while studying at Brown University, Duprie founded Damrex Records - a label he is also affiliated to as an artist.[5]

In 2021, Duprie released his first single “Pull Up” as a recording artist.[6] Shortly after, he released two other singles - “Playboy” in collaboration with Ghanaian artist Ahkan and “Le Ndem”.[7][8]
