From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Eduardo E. Benarroch (born 1950) is a Argentina-born American neurologist and neuroscientist. He helped establishing the clinical relevance that what he described as central autonomic network.[1] His research has focused on elucidating some of the neuropathological basis of autonomic and respiratory manifestation of several neurological disorders.[2]

He received his MD degree from the University of Buenos Aires in 1973.[3] He then completed a residence in Internal Medicine at the Hospital de Clínicas in 1978 and started his research career at the Institute de Investigaciones Médicas at this university. He continued his research career as a Fogarty International Fellow (NIH) (1982-85) at the Laboratory of Neuroscience in Cornell University Medical College in NY, USA, under Dr. Donald J Reis. In 1990, Benarroch began directing the basic neuroscience course at Mayo Clinic.[4]

Education and early research[edit]

Benarroch studied medicine, neurology and physiology as follows:

1989 Research Fellowship - Clinical Autonomic Physiology Mayo Clinic in Rochester[5]

1988 Resident - Neurology Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine [6]

1985 Fellow - NIH Fogarty International Fellow in Neurobiology (Donald J. Reis, Director). Cornell University Medical College[6]

1982 D.Sci - Physiology Buenos Aires University Medical College[6]

1982 Fellow - Physiology National Council of Scientific and Technical Research[6]

1980 Research Fellowship - Hypertension Institute of Medical Research[6]

1978 Resident - Internal Medicine Hospital de Clinicas[6]

1973 MD Buenos Aires University Medical College[6]

Personal life[edit]

He married Irish operatic soprano Heather Harper in 1973.[7]

Research focus[edit]

He is an internationally recognized clinical expert and investigator in autonomic disorders.[8] The research is focused on alterations of neurochemically defined neuronal groups in the brainstem and hypothalamus that control homeostasis in neurodegenerative disorders, such as multiple system atrophy and Lewy body disorders.[9][10]
