El-Shohadaa ("The Martyrs") is a central interchange station on the Cairo Metro, serving both Line 1 and Line 2. It is located beneath Ramses Square (Midan Ramses) in downtown Cairo, near the main Cairo Ramses railway station.

History

The station originally opened as part of Line 1 in 1987 under the name "Mubarak", in reference to then-President Hosni Mubarak. It was renamed El-Shohadaa (The Martyrs) following the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

Line 2 platforms were added in 1996, making El-Shohadaa a major transfer point between the first two metro lines.

Layout

The station has four tracks and two island platforms across two levels:

  • Upper level: Line 1
  • Lower level: Line 2

Both lines intersect perpendicularly underground.
