Elephant Insurance is a direct-to-consumer property and casualty insurance company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia.[2]. It offers auto, home, motorcycle, and life products to the customers in the United States. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Admiral Group plc.[3], an insurance company based in the UK and listed on the FTSE 100. Elephant provides services in six American states : Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, Texas, Indiana and Tennessee.

Elephant Insurance was founded in 2009 by Andrew Rose[4], as an American subsidiary of the Admiral Group plc., and who is currently the President and CEO of Compare.com. Admiral Group is a direct-to-consumer insurance provider in the UK. It brought this business model to the United States via Elephant. Elephant started in the state of Virginia. In 2012, it added Maryland, Illinois, and Texas. In 2016, it was launched in the Indiana and Tennessee markets.
Since 2009, Elephant’s staff has greatly expanded by moving from 43 employees at the end of 2009 to over 600 employees at the end of December 2017.[5]
In November 2017, Alberto Schiavon was named as the new CEO of the company. [6] [7] succeeding to Henry Engelhardt who was the CEO since March 2017[8].
