Elizabeth Watts-Legg is an English actress of stage and screen, Vocalist and television presenter, best known for presenting the BBC children's series Playschool in the early 1980s. And 'Lizzie Dreams' in the long-running Series Playdays. She is currently touring in the new musical 'Carnival Dreams' as the character 'Maria'.

Early life[edit]

Watts-Legg was born in London. In 1978 she graduated from Middlesex university taking a Bachelor of Education in Drama and Dance. Following a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced studies in speech and Voice with Singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1979. Watts-Legg landed her first presenting role in 1983 as one of the main presenter singers for the BBC'S children's series Playschool before joining Playdays in 1988.

Career[edit]

In 1983, she presented the long-running children's series playschool for the BBC where she became one of the main presenter singers. In 1988, Liz joined Playdays to voice 'lizzie Dreams'. A marionette puppet on strings who would often sing within the episodes. She voiced this role for the earlier series along with many Video releases. Watts-Legg presented three Video titles in the early 90s. 'I'm a little tea pot' along with 'Nursery Play Rhymes and 'My Best Nursery Play Rhymes.' All three titles were presented in a 'school classroom' setting with young children par-taking in the songs and actions.

Both before and since Playschool, Liz has had a varied and busy Stage and TV career, particularly in children's programming, where she has presented many educational programmes. She has also worked as a singer in many West End End musicals including Les Miserables Cats, Hair, Grease and Time. Liz has appeared on Friday night's music night for radio 2 as Star Singer and as a member of the Stephen Hill Singers.

Throughout the 2000s she has worked extensively as a voice-over artist for television advertisements,[1] and many west end and musical theatre productions. She is currently starring in a new musical called 'Carnival Dreams' where she plays the character 'Maria' the friend of 'Teresa' who is suffering the loss of her Daughter. Watts-Legg also created this role.

Personal life[edit]

Liz currently runs her own music business - running classes part-time for baby and sensory groups up to the age of 5 years - including teaching music notation.
