Environmental League of Massachusetts
The Environmental League of Massachusetts is a nonprofit organization that focuses on education and advocacy.[1] They are sustained by the support of donations, profits from events, and members of the organization and the community. [2]
Their focus is on a state level where they network and collaborate with numerous government and business partners in addition to other environmental nonprofits.[1]
HISTORY
Founded in 1898, originally named the Massachusetts Forestry Association, they continually became involved with environmental issues and changed the name to The Environmental League of Massachusetts in 1993 to reflect on their growing advocacy work. [2]
THE STAFF
Elizabeth Turnbull Henry, President
Elizabeth Turnbull Henry joined the Environmental League of Massachusetts in 2017.[1] Her goal is for Massachusetts to lead in environmental policy and build a path towards net-zero emissions.[1] Her distinct passions are expanding offshore wind, and pricing carbon.[1] Under Elizabeth's leadership, ELM's Corporate Council and the ELM Action Fund has been able to expand their horizons of opportunities. Both organizations have created political solutions to the climate crisis we are facing as locally and internationally.[1]
Elizabeth previously worked as a director for climate and energy programs for Adidas.[1] She was also a Sustainability Lead for a construction firm.[1] Elizabeth has an MBA and a Masters of Environmental Management (MEM) from Yale University and a BA in Environmental Policy and Economics from Colby College.[1] Elizabeth was raised in West Virginia and now resides in Concord, MA with her husband and three children.[1]
Clare Kelly, Action Fund Executive Director
Clare has recently served as President of the Reason To Believe PAC, an across the country grassroots political organization.[1] Clare has advised candidates for statewide and local office in Massachusetts on campaign tactics focusing on grassroots organizations and encouraging local leaders.[1] Clare previously worked as Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Democratic Party from 2010-2013.[1]
Prior to being an executive director, Clare was a political director for Governor Deval Patrick's Political Action Committee and as the Field Director on his re-election campaign. [1] Clare took this time to connect the Governor with Grassroots coalitions and focus part of his campaign on advocating for local issues in the legislature. [1]
