Erich Schubert is professor of data mining in artificial intelligence at the Technical University of Dortmund in Germany. He graduated from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Munich, Germany, where he worked with Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Kriegel.
He is known for his contributions to anomaly detection for his work on local outlier detection,.[1][2] outliers in high-dimensional data,[3] and outlier detection ensembles,[4][5] and in cluster analysis for contributions to density-based clustering (such as the understanding of DBSCAN[6] and OPTICS algorithm[7]) as well as k-medoids clustering,[8], silhouette clustering,[9] and his critique of the elbow method[10] for choosing the number of clusters in k-means clustering.
He contributed to open-source project such as Debian,[11] the ELKI data mining framework, the kmedoids
Python package[12] and kmedoids Rust crate[13]
