Erin Longbottom is an Australian judge of the Federal Court of Australia, sitting in the Brisbane registry. She was appointed on 20 December 2024; before her appointment she practised at the Queensland Bar and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2019.[1][2]
Education and career
Longbottom graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons). She was admitted to practise as a barrister in 2003 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2019.[2] She practised broadly in public law and related areas.[1]
Judicial service
Longbottom was appointed a judge of the Federal Court on 20 December 2024.[1][2] A ceremonial sitting of a Full Court to welcome her was held in Brisbane on 21 February 2025; the Court has published the transcript.[3] Media coverage of the ceremony appeared in QLS Proctor and in the Bar Association of Queensland's journal Hearsay.[4][5] The Australian Government Directory records her commission commencing on 20 December 2024.[6] Further independent reporting on the tranche of appointments was carried by Australasian Lawyer and the Law Society Journal (NSW).[7][8]
