The Honourable Justice Amelia Wheatley is a judge of the Federal Court of Australia, sitting in the Queensland registry. She was appointed on 6 January 2025 after practice at the Queensland Bar, where she was appointed King’s Counsel in 2019.[1][2]
Education and career
Wheatley graduated from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) in 1994 and from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1998. She completed a Master of Laws at the University of Queensland in 2008.[1] She was admitted as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1999, served as an associate in the Federal Court and worked as a solicitor at Freehills, before signing the Queensland Bar Roll in 2005 and being appointed King’s Counsel in 2019.[1]
Judicial service
Wheatley was appointed a judge of the Federal Court on 6 January 2025.[1][2] A ceremonial sitting of a Full Court to welcome her was held in Brisbane on 7 February 2025; the Court and legal media reported the event.[3][4][5] Her commission is recorded in the Australian Government Directory.[6]
