Eros Innovations (E/I) is a venture creation group led by Sophie Watts that invests in and builds celebrity-based businesses. Its lead investor is Eros Investments, owned by the Lulla family.

History[edit]

Eros Innovations was started in 2020 by Sophie Watts.[1] Watts is a media executive and co-founder of STX Entertainment, now Eros-STX.[2][3] She departed the studio in early 2018, citing a desire to pursue more aggressive growth business opportunities. Owners of Eros Innovations include Eros Investments, a media and tech investment holding company whose affiliate companies include Eros Now.[4] The parent company is owned and operated by Indian media baron Kishore Lulla.[5]

Executive Management[edit]

Sophie Watts (CEO) is a British-born film and media executive. Alongside Robert Simonds, she was one of two original members of the global media company STX Entertainment, which owned and controlled assets including a movie studio (STXfilms), television studio (STXtv), virtual reality studio (STXsurreal), and a digital content studio (STXdigital).[3] In July 2020, STX merged with Eros International to become Eros-STX Global Corporation, a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq. Watts is notable for being the only female media executive in history to have built a Hollywood film studio from the ground up.[4] Watts was featured in article by USA Today as one of “two powerhouse women” who helped guide Mike Tyson's return to the ring this past November.[5][6][7] The article profiles Watts and Kiki Tyson, who is married to Mike Tyson.[8]

Kristin Patrick acts as the company's president and CMO. Patrick joined Eros Innovations after a 6-year tenure at PepsiCo, where she began as the first-ever Global Chief Marketing Officer.[9][10]

John “Johnny” Ryan Jr. joined Eros Innovations as Head of Production in 2020 where he leads all content initiatives, including the creation of Mike Tyson's Legends Only League.[11] He was an Executive producer on the Tyson-Jones fight that Eros Innovations produced in November 2020.

Mike Tyson's Legends Only League[edit]

In July 2020, E/I launched its first celebrity-backed venture, Mike Tyson's Legends Only League.[12][13][14] [15][16] The first event produced under Tyson's League and Eros Innovations was the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. Frontline Battle Exhibition Fight at the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles on November 28, 2020.[17][18]

Frontline battle was the highest selling PPV fight of 2020 with over 1.8 million PPV buys, the 8th most bought PPV fight of all time.[19][20] Sports Illustrated and Forbes gave the event positive reviews.[21][22] In the months leading up to the Tyson vs. Jones Jr fight, Mike Tyson's Legends Only League partnered with Triller to produce a docuseries profiling Tyson and Jones’ return to the ring.[23][24] The league also unveiled event specific merchandise which was featured in Complex Style.[25][26]
