King’s Park are a fictional football team in the Bristish comic Champ, which appeared in the We are United strip (1984-86) (and possibly the Football Picture Story Monthly). The name is a direct reference to Everton FC. The club's nickname is The Caramelites.
History
The club won 5 league titles, 3 FA Cups and 2 League Cups and was considered a well respected side. In 1967 they won the League Cup, their last trophy and in 83/84 Everdon coached by Ken Howard managed to qualify for following season’s UEFA Cup, thanks to Graeme Gray who scored 26 goals (Southpool were the league winners).
In 84/85 under Ken Howard (reference to Everton manager Howard Kendall) they had a very tough team: conceded only 4 goals in 9 fixtures (December 1984). Everdon were a dour, defensive team marshalled surperbly by England’s sweeper Phil Hansen who liked to link with marksman Graeme Gray, a club record signing from Scottish Dumbardee United. They probably finished 7th.
In 85/86 they beat Southpool 2-0 in the FA Cup semifinal, but lost to Riverton United in the final at Wembley conceding 2 goals in the last 15 minutes. They finished 2nd behind Southpool in the league, in a season without a trophy. In 1987 they finished second again losing the decider on the last day away to United by 3-0 (Southpool were third).
