FUMBBL, or officially FUMBBL - Online Blood Bowl League, is a Blood Bowl Online community [1] with over 87000 registered members [2] launched on the 18th of August 2003 [3]. Registered users play Blood Bowl games on the Java Fantasy Football Client, or FBB for short. An average of around 200 games are played each day; as of July 2019, 2524566 games have been played.
FUMBBL is a non-profit community, as the site itself does not run advertisements [4] because of the bad aspects of it; Christer Kaivo-Oja said, “I want FUMBBL to be a place where users aren't subjected to all this nonsense.”[4]
History
The website itself was created in January of 2003 by Christer Kaivo-Oja on the URL of https://fumbbl.com and soon garnered members from the initial release of integrating JBB aka Java Bowl.[5]
The development of the current Java Fantasy Football client can be dated back to February of 2010 by client creator Georg Kalimar[6] through a series of blog posts summarising its development. The client was introduced to FUMBBL on the 18th of September 2012.
Website
The domain itself is hosted on the web hosting service called Gandi.net and the site registered on the 12th of December 2002[7]. The website itself has many features created by the user base through its long history, as well as features designed to improve the users' experience on FUMBBL.
The website came under fire in the summer of 2009 when founder Christer Kaivo-Oja received a letter from Games Workshop Group PLC on infringements of Games Workshop Limited’s Intellectual Property Rights. This was after 10 years and the large user base was outraged by this. From November of 2009, all Games Workshop related property has been mostly removed and banned. [8]
