Fazl-e-Haq Rampuri (Urdu: فضل حق رامپوری) was an Indian Islamic scholar and teacher.
Biography[edit]
Fazl-e-Haq was born in 1278 AH (1861/1862), in Rampur State. His father, Abdul Haq, belonged to a devout Sunni Muslim family. Rampuri completed his hifz at a young age, and then came under the tutelage of Abdur Rahman Kandahari with whom he studied Arabic grammar and morphology. He then travelled to Bhikanpur where he became a student of Abdul Karim Rampuri, and then to Aligarh where he studied large volumes under Mutfi Lutfullah Koili. Rampuri then travelled to Bareilly where he studied under Hidayat Ali Barelvi.
Rampuri then began his career as a teacher at the madrasa of Bareilly for a while, before transferring to the Rampur Alia Madrasah. He had many notable students including Nurul Hasan Dehlawi, Shah Yaqub Badarpuri, Mumtazuddin Ahmad (Noakhali) and Hamiduddin Hazarvi. For some time, he became a student again under Abdul Haq Khairabadi, son of Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi. After that, Rampuri became a teacher at the Madrasa-e-Sulaimaniya in Bhopal and obtained sanad-e-hadith from Shaykh Husayn ibn Muhsin as-Sab'i al-Yamani. He then returned to Rampur Alia Madrasah, and taught there for many years. He spent one year as a teacher at the Calcutta Alia Madrasah, and then returned to Rampur, eventually becoming headteacher there.
He died on 27/28 Dhu al-Qa'dah 1358 AH in Rampur, where he was buried.
