Popsure Deutschland GmbH, doing business as Feather, is a German insurance provider headquartered in Berlin. The company focuses on serving expatriates in Europe by providing English-friendly, digital insurance services.[1].
Feather is an accredited managing insurance agent[2] providing health insurance, dental insurance, pet insurance, liability insurance, contents insurance, bike insurance, travel insurance, income protection insurance, legal insurance, pension insurance and term life insurance in Germany.
Additionally, the company is licensed to operate and provides short-term health insurance and term life insurance policies across Europe, including France, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands[2].
The startup is based in Berlin, Germany, and has over 90’000 customers[3].
History
Feather was founded in 2018[4] by Rob Schumacher and Vincent Audoire, who met at Entrepreneur First[5]. Schumacher obtained a Ph.D. in actuarial science[6], while Audoire was among the first employees at the fintech startup N26[7].
Feather operated as a bootstrapped company for its first 4 years, relying on internal revenue growth and without external funding[8].
In 2022, Feather raised €3.8 million in a seed round of funding led by Plural, the VC fund founded by TransferWise’s Taavet Hinrikus and other founders and C-level executives of Monzo, N26, and GoCardless[9][10].
In July 2023, the company launched its health insurance in Spain and France[11]. In that same year, Feather reached 55,000 customers[12].
In June 2024, the company extended its seed round to a €6.5 million raise, led by Keen Venture Partners[13][14][15]
