Fela Akinse
Fela Akinse is a Nigerian businessman who is known for his business that uses recycled plastic to create modular footwear..[1] He is the co-founder of Salubata, which repurposes plastic oceanic waste for this purpose, and is also the co-founder and Chief Scientist of pap.earth.[2]
Early life and education[edit]
Akinse was born in Lagos State. He studied Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Management at the University of Lagos.[3]
Career[edit]
Akinse founded Salubata in 2017.[4] He originally became interested in combating the issue of plastic waste from University.[5][6] Salubata was accepted into the Los Angeles-based company accelerator Techstars.[7]
In 2022, he was among 12 founders representing 8 African nations at the Africa Startup Summit 2022,[8] was a delegate at the World Circular Economy Forum 2023 in Helsinki,[9] a winner of the Young Green Tech Entrepreneurs of 2022,[10] and a winner of the Commonwealth Award at the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.[11]
In 2023, he won the YouthADAPT Business Solutions Challenge in Nairobi[12]
