In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the fire bat is a type of elemental creature.

Publication history

The fire bat first appeared in the adventure module The Ghost Tower of Inverness (1979).[1] The fire bat appeared in the original first edition Monster Manual II (1983).[2]

The fire bat appeared in second edition for the Planescape setting in Planescape Monstrous Compendium Appendix III (1998).[3]

The fire bat appeared in the third edition Monster Manual II (2002).[4]

Description

A fire bat is a denizen of the Elemental Plane of Fire, possessing a flaming bat-like body, approximately two feet long with a wingspan of nearly four feet. A fire bat uses its razor-sharp fangs to attach itself to prey, burning and inflicting wounds on its victim; it reproduces by fission after consuming blood.
