The first website, reported to be the first, [1] was a 1990 CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) website, a file uploaded and published to an early version of the World Wide Web.[2] At that time, it primarily served as a resource about this new invention, featuring several pages linked together with hyperlinks.[3] These pages were removed, possibly as early as 1993, because they were deemed irrelevant, but were later restored by CERN in 2013 when their historical significance was recognized.[4]

Although few computers in 1990 could access this early web page, it became exceptionally important because it was the first web page publicly available.
