For Breakfast is a north London band that formed in 2015. They established themselves as part of the alternative scene, playing venues and releasing a single: Undercurrent (2018). They self-describe as the "friendly neighbourhood dream-poppy postrock sixpiece [sic]" with elements of jazz fusion and psychedelic rock. Their debut EP, Songs in the Key of O (2020), contains a cover of the influential jazz track Nardis which was praised by the most radicalist - an online publication dedicated to showcasing emerging bands. [1] In addition, the track was featured on the Canada-based web-radio show Cowboys & Indies (Extra Time), and the publication Smile End also praised the track for "masterful[ly] moderniz[ing]" the Miles Davis masterpiece for capturing the "eerie, uncertain zeitgeist of our times". [2] [3] So Young magazine eagerly awaited the release of Songs in the Key of O, complimenting the band's unique sound. [4]

History[edit]

Hailing from north and north-east London, For Breakfast was formed by two bored student radio hosts. Having a vague idea for a band they encouraged musically-minded friends Maya for vocals, Owen on guitar and Will on drums. They later recruited friend Elliott to play trumpet. After a few name changes, the band went into a premature hiatus for no real reason early on in development before reforming with greater resolve, minus Elliott and Owen, but with Gail now playing flute and Omar on guitar. Songs in the Key of O was recorded on an Oxfordshire farm in late 2019, ahead of a June 2020 release date.
