Books

The Australia of the French Explorers

In 2015 he published a book with the Australian academic Noelene Bloomfield, L'Australie des explorateurs français (The Australia of the French Explorers) [3], retracing the passage of the six major French exploration missions on the Australian coast in the 18th and 19th centuries [4]. He created a parallel between his contemporary photographs and drawings made by naturalist artists of these expeditions in those places more than two centuries ago.

In 2016 he won the award Prix Jules Ducros-Aubert of the Société de Géographie for his photographic work on the French explorers [5]. In the same year, the Australian state of South Australia organised an exhibition of his photographs at the State Library of South Australia[6] [7]

Australie aborigène, Walkabout

In 2019 he published a new book, Australie aborigène, Walkabout (Aboriginal Australia, Walkabout) [8] portraying the age-old bond between Indigenous Australians and their land. For his research, Frederic spent several months in communities in the North of the country (Yolngu and others) with his wife (co-author of the texts) [9].

During the major wildfires in Australia in early 2020, Frederic was invited on the French TV program 28 minutes on Arte channel, the France Inter and TV5Monde program La Librairie Francophone[10], as well as the French international radio RFI to discuss the Aboriginal people's knowledge on ways to prevent devastating fires.
