Freedom Oil is a brand of edible oil in South India launched in 2009 by its parent company, Gemini Edibles & Fats India (GEF India).[2]
History[edit]
The Freedom oil was first launched in 2009 by GEF India in Hyderabad. The company has three port based plants, one at Krishnapatnam with a refining capacity of 1000 MT per day and another at Kakinada with a refining capacity of 350 MT per day. Kakinada new unit refining capacity is 1150 MT per day.[3]
In 2019, The company invested Rs. 750 Cr to expand three greenfield refineries in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana. The company has 40% shares of oil market in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana.[4][5]
Philanthropy[edit]
Time to time the company conducts Self-employment Workshop for unempoyed people. In 2017, the company conducted a Self-employment Workshop for unempoyed people in partnership with NTR Trust.[6]
In 2019, Freedom Oil and The Siasat Daily news paper conducted cookery classes in Hyderabad.[7]
Freedom Hyderabad 10K Marathon[edit]
Each year the company sponsors 10 km Marathon for men & women. The initiative was taken by GEF India and started its first marathon in 2016. Winners awarded up to Rs. 1 lac as a prize money.[8][9][10][11][12]
Freedom Cooking Marathon[edit]
In May 2019, the company organized Freedom Cooking Marathon which is also featured in the Guinness book of world record for Non-Stop cooking by Chef Sharath Kumar.[13][14]
