Funeral Inception is an Indonesian death metal band that was formed in 2000 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The band comprises vocalist Doni "Iblis" Herdaru, guitarists Ai Dead Finger & Fadjar Ramadhan, drummer Gatot Hardiyanto and bassist Donirro, and keyboardist Sasya.

History

Previously known as Bloody Gore, the band released two mini-CDs, entitled Stench Of Your Perversion and Blood Driven Vehemence under Fetal Tampon Disease Records, USA, and Uxicon Records, Belgium.

In May 2002, the band changed its name to Funeral Inception and recruited Pandi Gebes (Sadistis) to fill the drum position, and recorded the debut album Anthems Of Disenchantment in Palu Studio, Jakarta. The band created ten solid songs which represent the starting point of Funeral Inception's new musical direction and mostly differ from what Bloody Gore had achieved previously.

In March 2003, the bassist, Mithos, retired to concentrate on his studies, followed by Rio (guitar) who later established the phenomenal label called Rottrevore Records. Along with Pandi, the whole band thought that it was time to focus on its brand new musical direction.

The band's influential vocalist, Doni, collaborated with several musicians to get better sounds, and later came up with the single “All Gods Children Must Die”. As time went by, inescapable personnel changes occurred.

By 2006, the band re-emerged with a tough-sounding line-up: Doni (vocals), Heldevy (guitars), Iwan (guitars), Ronnie (bass) and AA (drums). They started to get more attention from local audiences; they recorded 10 new songs at Studio Oranye, Jakarta. The album was mixed and they played hundreds of shows mostly in Jakarta and other towns.

While the band was busy touring, they produced new material for their second full-length album. In October 2007, it was mastered by Joteng Kampret, a legendary engineer from Bandung, who was also the guitarist of Indonesian band ‘Forgotten’.

Funeral Inception's second full-length album, H.A.T.E, represents the abbreviation of Heathen Against Terrorizing Entities. The terminology shows an extreme point of view from the band, reflecting the religious, social, and political reality that grew in their society.[1]

Rottrevore Records released the album on CD only for Indonesia's market. Along the way, the album was distributed on a limited basis to other countries, such as the United States, Germany, Finland, Poland, and Italy. The band received various positive feedbacks, notably for its different style of death metal sound. Some eager fans even asked for translations of some of its Indonesian lyrics.

Just like the first album, some featured songs on this album were also included in several international compilation releases, as well as getting continuous airplay from some extreme metal radio stations in the United States, France, Germany, and Russia.

By mid-2008, Heldevy (guitars) retired due to family issues, and was replaced by Nyoman, the guitarist from death metal band, DROP.

A clip for a song from the second album, entitled Surga Dibawah Telapak Kaki Anjing (Heaven is under the Palm of Dog Feet), was shot in a rural area of Purwokerto in early December 2008.

Not long after the video clip was released, drummer Achmad Mustaid a.k.a. AA also resigned. His position was temporarily filled by some additional drummers to accommodate the busy schedules at that time. Recently, Iwan Budiarto left the band to focus on his new family.

In May 2011, Gatot filled the drum position, and the band started to rehearse more and more in preparation for the recording of the third full-length album, which was released in 2013, entitled "In Praise of Devastation" under their own label named "Cerberus Production".

On 21 July 2016, they released their EP entitled "The Unbroken Legion" with a death metal opus style, distributed by Demajors, available in CD format and on iTunes.[2][3][4]
