"Future" (Hangul: 미래; RR: Mirae) is a song recorded by South Korean girl group Red Velvet for the soundtrack of the 2020 drama series Start-Up. The song was released as a digital single on October 17, 2020 by Music Buddy and Vlending. Written by Taibian and Park Se-jun, and produced by Taibian, Bark, and Yesy, it is an electro medium pop song. The song is about going through the future with someone who believes in you. It peaked at number 180 on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart and charted at number 95 on the K-Pop Hot 100. The song further charted at number 21 on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart.

Vlending confirmed that Red Velvet would be among the artists to record a soundtrack for the drama series Start-Up,[1] revealing "Future" would be released at 6 pm on October 17, 2020 as a digital single by Music Buddy and Vlending.[2] "Future" was produced by Yesy,[3] together with Taibian and Bark, who had previously produced the soundtracks for television series such as Itaewon Class, Stranger Season 2, Extraordinary You, and Hell Is Other People.[4] The lyrics were written by Taibian and Park Se-jun.[3] The song had its official digital release on the planned date.[4]
Musically, "Future" was described as an "electro medium pop song featuring bright synth sounds and stylish arrangements".[5] Guitar instrument was also included.[2] The song is composed in the key of G major with a tempo of 100 beats per minute.[6] Lyrically, the song conveys a message of going through a scary and unstable future with someone who believes in you.[7]
Promotion and reception[edit]
The music video for "Future" was released on October 17, 2020.[8] The song debuted at number 180 on the 43rd weekly issue of South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart for 2020 during the period dated October 18–24.[9] It further reached number 85 on the Gaon Download Chart.[10] In addition, it debuted at number 75 on the component BGM chart, while going on to peak at number 45.[11][12] The song entered the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 at number 95 on the chart issue dated November 7, 2020.[13] Elsewhere, the song debuted at number 21 on the US Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.[14]
