Greg Mitchell Jr. (born January 19, 1993 in North Hempstead, NY) professionally known as "GMJR," is an American record producer, songwriter, musical director, and drummer. GMJR has worked with various artists such as Musiq Soulchild, 112, Teddy Riley, Blackstreet, Keke Wyatt, Chante Moore, Tamar Braxton, Ré Lxuise, ELHAE, and Tayla Parx.

Early years[edit]

Greg was raised in Brooklyn, NY and began his musical journey playing drums at the early age of 3. His father/music veteran, Greg Mitchell Sr., help expand his musical endeavors by teaching "Little G" how to play piano, sequence, and compose music at age 9. At age 11, He and his family relocated to Richmond, VA during his middle and high school years, where he began to master the skill of performance on drums, as well as his production. Greg Sr. continued to see the burning passion in his son and decided to develop and co-produce Greg Jr.'s first demo at age 12, which was heard and critiqued by professional musicians, songwriters and producers on the east coast.

Career[edit]

While perfecting his craft as an aspiring world renowned drummer and music producer, Greg took his talents to Atlanta, GA at age 19, attending the Art Institute of Atlanta. After heavy networking and connecting on campus and around the city, he received opportunities traveling and serving as drummer with award winning artists and producers such as Bell Biv Devoe, Stevie J, Lady Nicole Wray, Teddy Riley, and Blackstreet.

In 2012-2013, Greg received his first music production opportunity with the TV network VH1, placing instrumentals on the reality series, "Basketball Wives." Shorty after, he began working with other networks such as E!, Bravo, and Oxygen.

In 2016, GMJR connected and became musical best friends with Grammy nominated songwriter, "Ré Lxuise."Within the first few months of working, they went on to release their first joint EP, "Dripping Gold[1]" on Soundcloud.

In 2017, He received the opportunity to serve as musical director and drummer for artists such as Keke Wyatt, and Chante Moore. That same year, he produced 3 songs with Musiq Soulchild[2] on the album, "Feel The Real" [3] released on September 15, 2017 (Entertainment One Music). One of the highlighted records on this album in which GMJR co-produced was the song, "The Moon," featuring pop astronomer Neil deGrasse Tyson, presenting a scientific romantic intro with the connection of love and space. On November 28th, 2017, Greg received news that the album was nominated for a Grammy for "Best R&B Album."

Greg continues to work hard and push his brand diligently and strategically across the globe. His current success allows him to maintain the hardworking journey, being appreciative of every opportunity presented.
