Gaborone Football Academy, also known as GFA, is a youth academy located in Gaborone, Bostwana. It is headquartered in the Block 8 neighbourhood and currently uses New Era College facilities for training and games[1]
History[edit]
Founded in 2009 as part of a nationwide drive for youth football in Botswana, GFA is one of Botswana's most prominent football academies. Unlike most academies attached to local teams which aim to produce players for the senior teams, GFA focuses on marketing its players to the international market. Its teams, which compete in the Gaborone Regional Football Association Youth League and sponsored tournaments featuring Botswana Premier League and South African Premier Division sides, are marketed by a South African agency. GFA was rebranded in 2012 to increase local presence.
Impact[edit]
GFA has earned great renown for developing Botswana talent for export. The academy hit an all-time high in 2015 when their player Ocean Lottering impressed greatly in trials with La Masia.[2]
