Gary A. Blair (born July 20, 1953) is currently serving as Mayor of Orange City, Florida

Early life/Occupation[edit]

Blair grew up in his family furniture business in Boca Raton. He is a 1971 graduate of Boca Raton High School and a 1977 graduate of Florida State University with a B.S. in Industrial Arts/Technology Education. Thirty years of his 34-year teaching career have been in west Volusia County. As of 2017 he also serves as a Volusia United Educators Organization steward at Galaxy Middle School.

Political Career[edit]

Blair served seven years (1998–2005) on the council, including two years as vice mayor, before taking a break only to return to the council again in 2009. During his tenure, he has served on the Metropolitan Planning Organization (now the TPO, Transportation Planning Organization), American Heritage Rivers Middle Basin Committee, and Albertus Cottage Steering Committee. He is involved with the Volusia League of Cities, Florida League of Cities and is a board member of The Friends of Blue Spring. As a councilman, he has served from 2009 to the present, and served 2 years as vice mayor. Blair ran for mayor in 2016 to replace the incumbent mayor Tom Laputka after Laputkae announced his resignation from office to run for the Volusia County Chair seat. He had two other opponents who were city councilmen (Tom Abraham & Michael Wright). He won the general election against Wright. He started a fitness program in the city called Orange City's Mayors Fitness Challenge (10 weeks of fitness activities for the city community). [1] [2]
