Gay Hitler

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Dr. Gay Ludwig Hitler (born 13 January 1882) was a local dentist in Circleville, Ohio, who served the community from 1922 through to his death in 1948. He had two sisters, Mae & Bertha. Many roads in the area still contain the word 'Hitler' after his family.[1]

Life

Hitler was born in Circleville Township, Ohio on 13 January 1882, to George Washington and Ida Lutz Hitler. He graduated from Kenyon College of Dentistry and attended the University of Cincinnati dentistry school. He began practicing in Circleville on East Main Street in 1905. The same year, he married May Belle Long. Together, they had four children: George, Jane, Marion & Helen.

Hitler was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal church and BPO Elks in Circleville, and belonged to the Rehwinkle Dental Society. He was also affiliated with the Ohio State Dental Society.[1]

Death

Hitler died in 1948, shortly following the death of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, at the age of 66. His exact cause of death is unknown, but it is suspected he suffered from illness for up to three years prior to his death.

Name

Hitler's legacy lives on primarily through his name, which has been noted as unusual for today's standards (though the word 'gay' was used interchangeably with 'happy' at the time of his birth and the name 'Hitler' did not hold the same connotations as it did following World War II).[2] Whilst he remains relatively unknown, he and his father's conspicuous names have sparked some interest in his life.
