Reza Shahini (Persian: رضا شاهینی‎, born 1969) better known as Robin Shahini (Persian: رابین شاهینی‎) is an American-Iranian citizen.[1][2][3] He was arrested by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on July 11, 2016 and sentenced to 18 years in prison on the charge of "collaborating with a hostile government" and "Blasphemy".[4][5][6]

Arrests[edit]

From 1988, Shahini went to United States and the state of California to continue his education.[7][8][9] Shahini went to Gorgan after seven years to visit his sick mother.[10][11][12] On July 11, 2016, he was arrested by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during the 2009 Iranian presidential election protests and sentenced to 18 years in prison on the charge of "collaborating with a hostile government" and "Blasphemy". On February 15, 2017, Shahini was on hunger strike for a month.[13][14][15]

Release[edit]

In April 2017, Shahini was released after posting a bail of 200 million Iranian toman (60,000 USD).[16][17][18]
