Gem Breakfast
Gem Breakfast
Gem Breakfast is an American online fine jewelry brand founded in 2017 by Catherine Cason. Based in San Francisco, the company is known for its unique engagement rings and nontraditional gemstone designs.[1]
History
Catherine Cason began with a blog called Gem Hunt to showcase indie designers and unique gemstones. She later used Instagram and pop-up events to sell jewelry before launching Gem Breakfast as a full e-commerce brand in 2017, combining in-house work and designer collaborations.[2][3]
Philosophy and Design
Cason has said she created Gem Breakfast to elevate “refreshing, surprising, beautiful alternative gems” such as salt-and-pepper diamonds, champagne diamonds, teal sapphires, and spinels.[4]
In WWD, she described the brand as “an online fine-jewelry store that features alternative diamonds in 'deliciously unique rings that are handcrafted, ethically sourced, and one-of-a-kind.'”[5]
Signature Bride has reported that the company “exclusively uses ethically sourced diamonds that have gone through the Kimberley Process.”[6]
Collaborations and Events
One notable event, the "Sexy Hexy" pop-up, challenged seven designers to create rings with hexagon-cut diamonds. JCK reported that 90% of those rings sold out within 48 hours.[7]
Later, Gem Breakfast hosted a "Solitaire Squad" event in collaboration with independent designers and Misfit Diamonds to produce creative solitaire styles.[8]
