Geopiratism

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Geopiratism is a political and economic ideology, combining Georgism with Pirate Politics. Geopiratism advocates for civil rights, direct/liquid/e-democracy/alternative participation in government, reform of copyright and patent law, free sharing of knowledge (open content), information privacy, transparency, freedom of information, free speech, anti-corruption, net neutrality and land value tax.[1]

Overview

Henry George was a 19th century economist, famous for coming up with the idea of "land value tax", a single tax that would replace all other taxes. Land, not being man-made, was seen as the fairest tax policy. His economic policies would later come to be known as Georgism.

On New Year's Day 2006, the first Pirate Party was formed in Sweden. Originally formed in search of copyright and patent reform, the ideology of "pirate politics" has come to include the defense of freedom of expression, communication, and education; respect for the privacy of citizens and civil rights in general; defense of the free flow of ideas, knowledge, and culture; a commitment to work collaboratively, and participate with maximum transparency; not supporting actions that involve violence; use of free software and open-source software, open-source hardware, DIY and open protocols whenever possible; politically defending an open, participative, and collaborative construction of any public policy; and the implementation and guarantee of direct democracy/E-democracy, open access, and open data.

Policy Proposals

Geopiratism calls for the elimination of all taxes to be replaced with the land value tax, allowing citizens to choose how their tax dollars are spent. Using liquid democracy-type technology, this allows the taxpayer to allocate funds to the service(s) of their choosing. Geopiratism calls for freedom to fund as one pleases, in theory eliminating controversies over where and how certain funds are being spent. For example, the use of tax dollars when funding Planned Parenthood is often a controversial topic, whether pro or against. With geopiratism, the taxpayer can choose whether or not they want their funds allocated.

Certain things, such as infrastructure, would be mandatorily allocated for funds. However, those who don't wish to have their tax dollars fund any extra government services may opt to receive their remaining funds via check to be spent freely.
