Georg Sporschill
Georg Sporschill SJ (born 26 July 1946 in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, Austria) is an Austrian Jesuit priest and social pastor, working with abandoned people in need.

Georg Sporschill was born in Feldkirch, in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg, the fifth of nine children. After graduating from the Gymnasium in Feldkirch, Georg Sporschill studied theology, education and psychology in Innsbruck and Paris. Subsequently he served as Adviser for adult education at the Office of the Regional Government of Vorarlberg. In 1976, aged 30, he entered the Jesuit Order and was ordained to the priesthood in Vienna two years later.[1]
As a young chaplain in the parish Vienna-Lainz he was devoted to youth ministry: he set up 30 youth groups, serving 700 young people in his parish.[2] During this period, he also headed the editorial office of the periodical Entschluss (“Resolve”). As he wanted to serve unprivileged he established in coordination with Caritas shelters for young people in need in the 1980ies. 1982 Sporschill founded the "Caritas Jugendhaus (JUCA)" for homeless youth, later the men's home "Vinzenzhaus" and the woman's home "Haus Miriam".[3] Offering youth a shelter Sporschill lived amongst them, offering stability, motivating them in their search for employment and their way to independence.[4] He initiated the “Canisibus”, which serves soup at Vienna’s railway stations for people living on the streets, and founded the restaurant “Inigo” in the Vienna city centre, which employs long-term unemployed people. After the fall of the Iron Curtain and the end of the Ceaușescu regime Georg Sporschill was sent by his Jesuit Order to Bucharest, with the mission to support Romanian street children who have fled the poor ex-communist shelters.[1][5][6][7]
Within 6 months Sporschill has set up five shelters for street children.[8] To guarantee the long-term success of this aid he founded 1992 the association „Concordia“, continuing providing homes for street children in Bucharest, enabling school education for children and work education for the youth. Initiated by the invitation of the Catholic Bishopf of Chișinău[9] Sporschill expanded his program 2004 to the Republic of Moldova and 2008 to Bulgaria.[10][11][12]
As Sporschill wanted to go to the milieu, where the street children come from - to the marginalised Roma families, he moved to Transylvania in Romania.[13] In order to support Roma families long-term he founded 2012 the association "Elijah",[14] avoiding children ending up on the street.[15][16][17] He establishes Roma music schools to arise talents and ambition,[18] social centers to support learning, job training for youth and parents like a farm and a carpentry.[19]
Not asking what he wants to do, but asking himself where he is needed, and furthermore what they need from him - that is his orientation in life.[20]
