Gimbarr

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

man is practicing gimbarr, this element's name is "rompe columnas". This can be practiced at any sports ground where there is a Horizontal bar, which may not meet the standards and rules of the International Gymnastics Federation. A person who is trained in Gimbarr is called a barrista.

Gimbarr(spa. Gimbarr)— one of the street gymnastics styles, originating in Colombia. This sport involves performing various elements (specific and characteristic only to Gimbarr) and combinations thereof on a Horizontal bar. It develops flexibility, strength, perseverance, endurance, and coordination. This can be practiced at any sports ground where there is a Horizontal bar, which may not meet the standards and rules of the International Gymnastics Federation. A person who is trained in Gimbarr is called a barrista. Widespread among youth in Colombia, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Poland, the Baltic countries, and some others. A large number of elements are stored in the Gimbarr elementos group[1]

Styles and elements of Gimbarr

The names of the elements are in Colombian Spanish. Numerous elements of Gimbarr can be divided into several styles.[2]

  • Figuras[3] — A style based on the consistent execution of power elements and elements of flexibility (águila, Uno, ocho, rambo Z[4]).

Yoyos[5] — A style based on performing a variety of elements with transitions to the nivelada position. For example: mágnun, calipso, yoyo alfa, saleen (rotated by 720°), and others.

  • Giros[6] — A style based on technical revolutions around the horizontal bar with different elements (e.g., high turnover: soles (the sun), lunas (the moon), avismos (sun on the feet); others: sillas (chair), ángeles, universales (turnover on hamstring without hands), suicide, and others).
  • Ángulos[7] — Exercises are performed at the edge of the bar; the bar is used as support; standing; practicing transitions from the horizontal bar to a strip adjacent to the horizontal bar (diamante, bandera, yoyo por dentro, and others).
  • Acrobacias — Acrobatics exercises, namely various flips, jumps off the horizontal bar, and others. (mortal (Lach gainer, back somersault off horizontal bar), catapulta (forward somersault off horizontal bar), ginger, hoja, caída del japonés.[8]
  • Agilidad— Agility exercises (demonios,[9] super ole, eclipse (interceptions of hands while doing soles/lunas)).
  • Fuerza Extrema — Performance of strength exercises for retention of body weight on the bar in unusual positions (cristo (hold on nape), anticristo (hold on chin).[10]
  • Mixto — Performance of combinations of elements from different styles.[11][12]

One or another element could be slightly modified in various ways (in which case, the name of the exercise sometimes includes the words supremo, super).

Types of grips in Gimbarr

The manner in which the horizontal bar is grasped by a barrista is called the grip (not to be confused with the suede leather grips that are worn on the hands).[13][14]

  • Normal (overhand)— The standard grip used for the horizontal bar. In the normal grip, the hands circle the bar with the backs of the hands facing the athlete.
  • Seudo (underhand) — The opposite of the normal grip. Holding a normal grip, turn forward by 180°.
  • Chalito — This occurs if, from the seudo grip, you turn forward 180° (or from the normal - 360°).
  • Over Chalito — This occurs if, from the chalito grip, you turn forward 180° (or from the seudo - 360°/normal 540°).
  • Cubital (inverse) — The athlete's hands are turned 180° outward from a normal grip. Thumbs are turned out, but in the opposite direction of a seudo. This position requires flexible shoulders to swing comfortably.
  • Contra — This occurs if, from the cubital grip, you turn back 180° (or from the normal 360°).
  • Contra Rosa — This occurs if, from the contra grip, you turn back 180° (or from the cubital 360°/normal 540°).
  • Nemesis — This occurs if, from the contra rosa grip, you turn back 180° (or from the contra 360°/cubital 540°/normal 720°).
  • Over Nemesis[15] — This occurs if, from the nemesis grip, you turn back 360° (or from the contra rosa 360°/contra 540°/cubital 720°/normal 900°).
  • Aqua — Obtained by placing a procollar wrist (in which the wrist is put on the horizontal bar) in the seudo position.
  • Ruben — This occurs if, from the aqua grip, you turn back 180°.
  • Cripta — Obtained by placing a procollar wrist (in which the wrist is put on the horizontal bar) in the chalito position.
  • Super Cripta — This occurs if, from the aqua grip, you turn forward 180°.

Thus, grips transition in the following way: Over Chalito/Super Cripta → Chalito/Cripta → Seudo/Aqua → Normal/Ruben → Cubital → Contra → Contra Rosa → Nemesis → Over Nemesis.

  • Zonda — Intermediate grip between the seudo and chalito (seudo turned 90° forward).
  • Omega[16] — Position M (shoulder on the bar as in the elements of Magnum and Mosh) in Contra grip.

Often, elements are performed with different grips on the right and left hand. If the element is performed with the same two grips, its name may include the combination of «en doble» and the name of the grip; if executed with crossed arms - «en X»; one-handed - «a una mano»; one hand on the wrist of the other - «uni»; on the Carpal bones - «muñeca»; with one finger - «un dedo»; different grips - «mix»; on the elbow - «en codo»; in the armpit – «Z».

Interceptions in the performance of elements from seudo to normal are marked with the word «insidioso»; from cubital to normal - «supra» (in yoyos «light»); from normal to cubital - «anti supra»; from cubital to contra rosa - «hard»; from chalito to normal - yoyos-«bong»/figuras - «gorrión»; from normal to Unic/RC - «anti insidioso»; from contra to normal - «gato»; cripta to normal - «victoria»; from normal to aqua - «dark»; from aqua to normal - «rompe aqua»; from elbow to normal – «H»; jump from grip to the same grip - «fly»; jump from escuadra to nivelada - «trump». Holding the body above the horizontal bar with the arm bent at the elbow is called the flag. Flags are also divided by the type of hand grip (e.g., anclado - in normal, en contra - in cubital, en contra rosa - in contra, en únic - in seudo, in normal elbow - paleta, lying elbow - espacio). Interceptions in the performance of elements from flag to escuadra (hand along the belly) are noted as follows: from contra to normal - «white»; from únic to normal - «red»; from anclado to seudo - «black»; from contra rosa to normal - «green»; from contra muñeca to normal - «purple»; from elbow aqua to normal - «rompe aquador».[17]
Holding the hand on the side column of a horizontal bar - «diosa»; the interception through a stand - «por dentro»; «Gran» - indicates a "flight" phase in the presence of the element.

Also, elements are performed in different body and leg positions.

Principles of performing elements and some complications

Some exercises are performed slowly and statically (estático), others quickly, by inertia (impulso), or with a swing (alemán). An element's opposite may include the word «anti» in its title; in reverse order (including reverse grips) - «inverso» (in some cases, the exercise in reverse order is easier and can be used in learning the basic element). Other complications: performance of any element with folded legs, as in Lotus position - en loto; with legs bent at the corner - "en L"; with folded crossed legs - "en gusano"; with straight legs and body - con postura; with straight arms - "Tarzán".[18]

The simplest Gimbarr elements, from which it is recommended to start training, are:

  • Yoyos

Technique: Medio Yoyo, Acuario Yoyo, Silla Yoyo, Escala Nivelada, Crabo Yoyo, Scrable, Inframundo en cubital, Frenesi, Yoyo.[19]

Gimbarr History

Colombia

Originated, as already mentioned, in Colombia around the 1950s in the Fontibón and Kennedy areas in western Bogotá, where several people trained on street horizontal bars, practicing existing gymnastics elements and trying to develop new ones. Between 1998 and 2002, it received intensive development, was recognized as a national sport, and was actively supported by local authorities, leading to the organization of competitions and televised performances. The most famous Colombian barristas include: David Díaz, William Santana,[21] Armando García, brothers Fabio and Óscar Cepeda, and others; one of the most famous teams is «La Vieja Guardia».[22] In the FBX style (figuras de barra extreme), the famous team is «Guerreros de Guerreros».[23]

Russia

In Russia, Gimbarr began to develop since 2010. Among the first to perform these exercises were Artem Tsyganov and Vasily Karakezidi from Novorossiysk. They also created the first Russian Gimbarr team, dubbed «Gimbarr Rusia Guardia». By 2011, it consisted of four people (Artem Tsyganov, Vasily Karakezidi, Timur Vikharev, and Raul Minulaev). Later, in January 2011, in cooperation with Men's Health magazine, Michael Baratov from Voronezh produced a training video tutorial on horizontal bar exercises (number 9), dedicated to one of the typical Gimbarr elements - ocho, which Michael mistakenly called Spanish.[24] On 8 and 9 December 2012, the first Nations Cup in Gimbarr style was held in Moscow at the Luzhniki sports complex. Currently, Russia's official sports organizations have begun to show interest in Gimbarr.
