Giorgi Gagoshidze
Giorgi Gagoshidze (in Georgian გიორგი გაგოშიძე), born on 14 February 1986 in Tbilisi, Georgia, is a Georgian contemporary artist who concentrates on different areas of art (painting, poetry, animation, cyber art, science art, street art and new media art) and combining those with each other. His main idea is that art does not stand apart from everyday life, in his works he emphasizes the impact of art on all other fields.
Biography[edit]
Giorgi Gagoshidze was born on 14 February in 1986 in Tbilisi, Georgia. He received his Bachelor degree from the Faculty of Computer Science at the Tbilisi State University in 2007 and continued his studies at Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia, doing his Master's degree in Technology Governance (from 2010-2012). Giorgi's Master's thesis analyzes Nietzsche's and Robakidze's understandings of state and governance. After his Master's studies Giorgi moved to Gdansk, Poland to work as an art teacher in an orphanage. In 2012-2013 he owned an art-cafe "Amarcord" in Tbilisi.
Early artworks[edit]
Giorgi is a self-taught painter and practices different styles from primitivism to neo-expressionism. His works are characterized by strong vivid colors and philosophical concepts - the paintings represent analyzes and observations of his study and interest in philosophy, psychology and literature.[1]
In recent years Giorgi also practices Visual poetry by combining his drawings and writings.[2]
Cyber Art[edit]
In 2012 Giorgi launched a new project called Cyber art where he unites programming and computer design with his artistic ideas. The concept of Giorgi’s Cyberart project is to look art as an alive subject, as a human being that participates in the changing society, government, revolution and is involved in everyday life. Cybernetics allow art to be alive, to think, to act and to make choices independently without human intervention.[3][4]
Science Art[edit]
In 2013 Giorgi started working on his Science art project together with the Georgian National Gallery, Institute of Physics and Faculty of Engineering of Georgian Technical University. Science Art is part of New Media Art, mix of contemporary art, cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions: it brings together art, informatics and science groups in order to create artworks. Poetry[edit]
In December 2013 Giorgi's poetry collection "Estacada 57" was published by Karchkhadze publishing house. The book contains the poems written during his hitchhiking trip around Europe in the Summer of 2013. "Estacada 57" was published as an analogy of Giorgi's original notebook that he carried during his journey and it contains all authentic scribbles, grammar errors, stained pages and sketches of the notebook.[7]
