Levan Kistauri (Georgian: ლევან ქისტაური, born April 15, 1967, Tbilisi, Georgia) is an economist from Georgia, with a Doctorate in Economics.[1]
Education
Kistauri graduated from Tbilisi State University, Faculty of Economics in 1991, specializing in Banking and Finance. He obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from his alma mater in 1994. Kistauri has attended trainings and internships at educational, research, monetary, and financial institutions in the USA (Williams College, Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago), UK (Bankers Trust), France (Banque de France), Germany (Deutsche Bundesbank), Canada, and Austria.
Career
Economist
Kistauri worked as an economist in the finance department of the Tbilisi Didube District Municipality in 1990, then became division head at the Ministry of Finance of Georgia from 1991–1992. In 1992 Kistauri joined the National Bank of Georgia and worked as deputy head and head of the Foreign Exchange Department from 1992–1994, head of the Banking Supervision and Regulation Department from 1994–1999, then as head of the Macroeconomic Researches and Monetary Policy Department from 1999–2000. At the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, he was first deputy head and head of the Treasury Service from 2000–2001, head of Excise Service from 2002–2003, and chairman of the Customs Department from 2001–2002 and 2003–2004. Since 2004 Kistauri has been a managing partner of Business Management Bureau LLC.[2]
Kistauri was also a member of the Securities (Finances) Council from 1994–1999, and a member of the Audit Board under the Parliament of Georgia from 1995–2000. He is a member of the American Economic Association.
Academic
Kistauri lectured, first as a visiting professor, then as an associate professor at the Tbilisi State University from 1995–2009, and as a full professor at the International Black Sea University from 2009–2014. Since 2014 Kistauri has been a full professor and head of the Finance and Banking program at the Economics and Business Administration Faculty of St. Andrew the First-Called Georgian University.
Research and publications
Kistauri is the author of nearly fifty books, research papers, and articles about economy, macroeconomics, and monetary policy, tax, and financial policy, state budget, and banking.
He is fluent in English and Russian.
