GoBike is a Thailand-based hyper local technology company[1] that offers ride-hailing and logistics services through its app in Bangkok[2]. Founded in 2015, it is the first startup of Thai-Malaysian origin that is the only legal ride sharing application in Thailand, working in partnership with the Motorcycle Taxi Association of Thailand[3][4].

Operations[edit]

The GoBike app is the only legal[5] taxi ride-hailing mobile application in Bangkok[6], allowing GoBike to utilize the pool of legalised motorcycle taxi bikers to connect with the nearest passengers.

In Bangkok the motorbike taxi driver is referred to as a P'win, they are generally used for short trips[7]. The GoBike app assigns motorcycle taxis to nearby passengers through their e-hailing app[8]. Motorcycle taxis are generally found queued on many sois, or side streets, and the queues are regulated by Land Transport Authority, and can be seen wearing vests and have yellow number plates.

Bangkok locals generally only use motorcycle taxis when they need to get somewhere fast, as metered taxi-cabs can actually not only be more expensive for short trips but also slower than flat-rate motorcycles. Therefore, motorcycle taxi-drivers in Bangkok have built their reputation on delivering service as quickly as possible and tend to drive very fast and weave through traffic.[9]

Using the same service, GoBike has created an on-demand delivery service with Go Messenger, allowing customers to to deliver parcels, documents and even groceries via GoBike motorcycle taxis.[10]

GoBike boasts some 15,000 riders in the greater Bangkok area — the only city in Thailand where the group operates for now In December last year, the three year old company surpassed 500,000 bookings for its passenger and delivery services[11].

Services[edit]

There are mainly 4 services, namely Go Ride, Go Messenger, Go Mart, Go Eats.

Go Ride gets you in and around the city in the quickest way possible using our ever-reliable transport service, manned by our trustworthy professional GoBike riders who are constantly ready to get you to your destinations quickly and safely, especially during rush hour traffic!

Go Messenger is an instant courier and parcel delivery service, ensuring your packages, parcels, documents and even groceries are consistently delivered quickly and safely via GoBike motorcycle taxis

Go Mart represents GoBike's collaboration with FamilyMart (Thailand), currently covering the Bangkok Metropolitan Area.[12] The partnership has GoBikers deliver online orders to customers, wherever they are[13].

Go Eat is a newly launched food delivery service in collaboration with one of most famous global restaurant chains, delivering food right to your doorstep!

GoWin utilizes GoBike’s partnership with the Thai Motorcycle Taxi association using legally registered drivers and motorbikes, where users can walk to the local Win street corner and expect the same fares as if using the Go Ride service

History[edit]

GoBike co-founder Lian Wah Seng devised the idea of a Bangkok ride-hailing service on his visits to Bangkok handling his previous startup business. Lian realized that due to significant traffic congestion, he always ended up using the motorcycle taxis and the train to get around.

The idea for a ride hailing app then began to form and after partnering up with Attapon Sitichaiareekit, a Thai partner who eventually became the GoBike co-founder and executive director that they proposed building a business with the established ecosystem of 100,000 registered moto drivers[14].
