Deliveree is a third-party logistics (3PL) company based in Southeast Asia[1] that operates a tech marketplace[2] to connect customers with truck drivers through mobile and web applications to carry out the transportation of goods, cargo, and freight.[3] The company currently operates in three countries: Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines, where it is known as Transportify.[4][5][6]
History[edit]
Deliveree was founded in 2014 in Thailand. A year later, the company expanded its operations to Indonesia[7] and then the Philippines under the brand name Transportify, backed by early investors Inspire Ventures and Ardent Capital.[8]
The company shifted its focus to business-to-business services in 2016 and created services catered to business operators and corporations.[9] In 2017, Deliveree raised $14.5 million from a Series A funding round led by Gobi Partners, PSA Unboxed, Asia Summit Capital, and Inspire Ventures.[8]
In 2020 Deliveree raised $18.5 million from a Series B round of funding, and by 2022 the company secured $70 million through a Series C round[5] led by Gobi Partners and SPIL Ventures.[4][10] This step brought the total amount of capital raised by the company to $109 million since it was founded in 2015.[6][11]
In June 2022, Deliveree moved its headquarters to Jakarta as the Indonesian market contributed 40 percent of its Gross Transaction Value (GTV).[12] As of 2022, Deliveree employs approximately 500 associates, aggregates the services of around 100,000 independent drivers and trucking companies across Southeast Asia[1][3] to support over 25,000 B2B clients[5][13] and manage around 25,000 deliveries and cargo transport operations each day.[4] From 2020 until 2022, Deliveree reported an increase in gross transaction numbers by 3.2 times.[13]
Operations[edit]
Inland trucking and logistics[edit]
Deliveree started out as an on-demand Full Truckload service marketplace before expanding its product lineup to include Less than Truckload services as well.[14] Both services are offered through its online logistics marketplace, where all processes, from dispatch, tracking, and delivery, are digitized through the company’s app and dashboard.[15] Deliveree acts as a connector between senders and truck drivers, which makes the platform asset-light, flexible, and scalable. Amid rising fuel prices in June 2022, Deliveree reported growing demand for its services.[16] Deliveree is also notable for its training and support programs for onboarded drivers.[17]
Inter-island delivery[edit]
SPIL Ventures, the venture capital arm of Indonesian logistics and shipping lines company PT. Salam Pasific Indonesia Lines,[12] announced a strategic investment in Deliveree to enable the tech platform to provide inter-island deliveries.[1][11] To that end, SPIL leveraged its supply chain infrastructure and network in Indonesia’s major ports to support Deliveree’s containerized cargo solutions.[18]
Big data and predictive analytics[edit]
Deliveree’s marketplace relies on big data to increase the utilization of empty trucks and reduce driver transit costs,[19] which solves the poor utilization of truck fleets throughout 2022.[15] Big data and predictive analytics are utilized to keep vehicle utilization rates at 75 percent in areas such as Java (Indonesia), Luzon (the Philippines), and Bangkok (Thailand).[18] In order to improve delivery time predictions over time, Deliveree utilizes traffic, average loading-time, and weather data.[12]
