Good Morning is an Australian alternative pop band from Melbourne, Victoria. The band consists of Stefan Blair (lead vocals, guitar, keyboard) and Liam Parsons (guitar, vocals, keyboard). Blair and Parsons share the songwriting and recording duties. Joe Alexander (drums) and James Macleod (bass) join the band in live performances.[2]

Origins and development[edit]

In 2013, Blair and Parsons split the cost of a Foxtex four track tape machine, and began to record music together, with Good Morning becoming the result of this investment. [3] The band released their first EP, Shawcross, in 2014. [4] The EP featured seven tracks and was supported by one single, "Don't Come Home Today." A defining moment that rewarded the band with international attention came when musical artist Tyler, the Creator endorsed the band's song “Warned You” on Instagram, which provided the band with a great deal of engagement it hadn't previously experienced.[5] The post has since been removed but nonetheless, the band gained hype and moderate success from this exposure. "Warned You" remains by far the band's most streamed song on Spotify, with over 27 million plays as of August 2019.

In 2015, Good Morning released singles, "A Vessel / Radiovoice", and "On The Street / You". In January 2016 they released their second EP, Glory which was met with moderate success. In November they released two more singles, "Step Aside / Oppsie", which are among their most streamed tracks on Spotify.

In 2017, the band signed with Melbourne-based independent label Bedroom Suck Records, who then released a reissue of their previous EPs, called either “Glorcross” or “Glory/Shawcross”, to coincide with them, with the plans being to release their first official studio album at some point in the next year. In January 2018, the band confirmed these plans to release an album.[6] This was followed through with the band releasing two singles, entitled "Mirror Freak” and “Escalator" on March 26, and announcing the album, entitled Prize // Reward would be released on May 11, distributed through Bedroom Suck Records and their international distribution deals.[7] The band put out two more singles, "Just a Man" and "For a Little While", on April 16 ahead of the album's May release date. In May, ASAP Rocky's latest album Testing sampled the band's song "Don't Come Home Today" in the song "Kids Turned Out Fine". [8]

In July 2018, the band hinted at a future album titled The Option in a Facebook post.[9] In August, the band embarked on its first tour outside of Australia, performing eight shows across Japan, with various opening acts. [10]

On 5 April 2019, The Option was released independently.[11]

In 2019, the band's Spotify page was updated to include Joe Alexander as a new member of the band, replacing former bassist John Considine.[12] Alexander played drums on the band's 2019 US tour, its first tour of North America, while James Macleod slid from drums to bass to accommodate the Bedroom Suck Records CEO.

In 2020, the band announced they would be playing South by Southwest for the first time, and announced a second U.S. tour, as well as a "world tour" beginning in their native Australia with a show in Ballarat on 25 Jan.
