Gozie Udemezue (born 3 May 1971) is a Nigerian attorney, human rights advocate, writer and public speaker. She is the founder of Wevolution Coaching Services and co-founder of Healing Hearts Widows Support Foundation Inc. (HHWSF).[4] In 2016, she was recognized on the floor of the U.S. Congress for the work she is doing with widows.[5] In 2018, she was awarded the Danny Glover award in New York for her work at the grassroots among widows and their children.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Gozie was born in Enugu, South-east Nigeria. She obtained her first degree in Law from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) in 1999 and Masters in Law (LLM) from Queen Mary College, University of London in 2015.[6] Gozie has also attended a training at International Institute for Human Rights, Strasbourg, France where she obtained Certificate in International Human Rights in 2003.

Career[edit]

Gozie is a trained lawyer and human rights activist who focuses on cases and matters of violation of human rights. She practices law with the law firm of N. O. Izuakor & Associates based in Enugu. She is a consultant with the Center on Housing Rights & Eviction (COHRE), Geneva, Switzerland and the Huairou Commission, New York, United States.[7] In addition, she is also the executive director, legal consultancy services at Konz Consulting Ltd with offices in Abuja and Enugu. The firm handles legal and property consultancies and training among others. She co-founded HHWSF with her husband in 2008, where she with a team of over 100 individuals have provided support to over five thousand widows throughout Nigeria, including medical support, food, loans, education and legal financial support to widows.[8][9]

Achievements and Awards[edit]

Gozie sits on the board of two international non-profit organizations based in Chicago, Illinois and Kampala, Uganda. She is also on the administrative board of Hope Restoration ministry in New York as a volunteer administrator.

Gozie is a gold star alumna of the U.S. State Department International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) on Grassroots Activism and a Fellow of the African Leadership Institute of West Africa (ALIWA) under the Aspen global leadership program.[10] Gozie's awards include: The Danny Glover award and recognition on the floor of the U.S. Congress by Michigan Representative, Debbie Dingell.[11] The Entrepreneur in 2017 recognized Gozie as one of the eleven African Entrepreneurs who are changing the business landscape through her Nwachinemelu Local Food Kitchen where her frozen foods are being mailed across the globe.[12]

Personal life[edit]

Gozie married her late husband, Chief Emeka Udemezue in 1994, who died in 2013. She has three children.[13]
