Grand Rounds Health is a healthcare company that people use to find healthcare providers through their employer-sponsored benefits programs. The company connects 6 million members.[1] to doctors and insights to make informed healthcare decisions. Companies like Walmart, Costco, and Salesforce work with Grand Rounds Health. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, with additional operations in Reno, Nevada, and Lewiston, Maine, the company has more than 900 employees[2]. Grand Rounds Health has partnerships with hospitals including Boston Children's Hospital[3][4], Massachusetts General Hospital[5], UCSF Medical Center[6], the Hospital for Special Surgery[7], and New York Presbyterian Hospital. In March 2021, Grand Rounds Health announced its merger with Doctor On Demand[8]. The merger was finalized on May 11, 2021[9]. The combined company acquired Included Health, a healthcare navigation platform for LGBTQ+ and other underrepresented communities, later the same month[10].
Overview[edit]
Investors include The Carlyle Group, Venrock, Greylock,[11][12] Harrison Metal Capital[11], and an unnamed mutual fund[13].
History[edit]
Co-founder Lawrence Hofmann's original idea for the company came when his son was hospitalized with aplastic anemia[14]. Although Hofmann is a professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, he did not have the experience to know whether his son was getting the best possible care. He called upon his own network of doctors and ultimately connected teams at two different hospitals to apply a new bone marrow transplant technique[11]. After this experience, he realized that most patients do not have the ability to call on their friends and family for expertise, and sought to start a company that makes medical expertise easier to access[15]
The firm's name pays homage to medical educational grand rounds.
