Lee Dong-hyuck (Hangul:이동혁, born June 6, 2000), better known by his stage name Haechan (해찬), is a South Korean singer and a member of the South Korean boy group NCT and its sub units: NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT U.
Early Life[edit]
Haechan was born in Seoul, South Korea on June 6, 2000 but moved to Jeju when he was 7, living there until he was 12. He attended School of Performing Arts Seoul.
Haechan became a trainee under SM Entertainment in 2013 through SM Weekly Audition.[1]
Career[edit]
2014–2015: Pre-debut and SM Rookies[edit]
Haechan was first introduced in SM Rookie, a pre debut training team, on July 14, 2014.
In 2014, Haechan appeared on Exo 90:2014, a reality show starring label mate EXO alongside with other SM Rookies, where they perform songs and recreate music videos from the 90s K-Pop idols.[2]
In 2015, Haechan appeared on Disney Channel Korea's The Mickey Mouse Club as a Mouseketeer alongside other SM Rookies members, some of who are now currently his groupmates in NCT Dream. The show was hosted by Leeteuk of Super Junior and aired from July 23 to December 17, 2015.[3]
2016–present: Debut in NCT 127, NCT Dream[edit]
Prior to the release of NCT's first single, "The 7th Sense", released by the sub-unit NCT U, Haechan participated in the recording of the demo for the song, although he did not appear in the final released version of the song.[4]
In July 2016, SM confirmed Haechan as a member of NCT's second sub unit, NCT 127, alongside Taeyong, Taeil, Yuta, Jaehyun, Winwin, and Mark. NCT 127 made their official debut with the EP NCT #127 and the title track "Fire Truck" on July 10, 2016.[5]
In August 2016, SM confirmed Haechan as a member of NCT's third sub unit, NCT Dream, alongside Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung. They made their official debut with the single "Chewing Gum" on August 24, 2016.[6]
On December 19, 2018, SM Entertainment announces Haechan's hiatus due to injury, fracturing his shinbone.[7]
On April 17, 2019, Haechan returned from his hiatus with the release of NCT 127's first full length Japanese album Awaken.[8]
