Hafiz Abdul Salam bin Muhammad (born; 27 August 1946) is a Pakistani religious scholar and Qur'an commentator.[1] He has been associated with teaching for more than fifty years. He is also the author and translator of several religious books.[2] He is the founding director of Jamia al-Dawa al-Islamiyya Markaz al-Tayyaba Muridke[3] and is the supervisor of more than fifty madrasahs of religion established across the country under this university.
Early life[edit]
Hafiz Abdul Salam bin Muhammad was born on 27 August 1946, corresponding to the 29th of Ramadan 1365 AH, one year before the establishment of Pakistan, in his Grandfather's house in Gohar Chak, Patuki, Kasur District. His village is Bhatta Mohabbat, which is located in Tehsil Dipalpur Okara District.[4]Hence he is called Bhatvi. His father Hafiz Muhammad Abul Qasim Bhutvi was also a great scholar.
Education[edit]
After matriculation and memorization of Quran, Hafiz Abdul Salam bin Muhammad completed his religious education from Jamia Muhammadiyah Okara and Jamia Salafia, Faisalabad. He is certificated of Fazil Arabic, Fazil Farsi and Fazil-e-Tabb modern theory of singular organs.[4]
Teachings[edit]
Hafiz Abdul Salam bin Muhammad started his teaching from Jamia Muhammadiyah Gujranwala. He was associated with Jamia Muhammadiyah for twenty-seven years from 1966 to 1992. [4]During this time, he also taught and taught at the University of Al-Qur'an and Hadith, Rawalpindi (now Jamia Salafia Islamabad). In 1992, the Center of Tayyaba Mureed permanently moved to Sheikhupura and founded Jamia Dawa-e-Islamiyya.[3]He is the founding principal of this university and the teacher of thousands of students who have graduated from it, including many well-known scholars.
Khutbaat (speeches)[edit]
Hafiz Abdul Salam bin Muhammad is also known in Pakistan for his Friday sermons, teaching of Quran and Hadith and fatwa. In 1966, on the insistence of Maulana Muhammad Ismail Salafi, he started speaking in Jama Masjid Bilal, Satellite Town, Gujranwala. Later, on the order of Shaykh Al-Hadith Maulana Abdullah (may God bless him and grant him peace), he continued to teach the Sahih Bukhari and other books in Jamia Al-Qur'an and Hadith, Rawalpindi for a year and also gave Friday sermons. After returning to Gujranwala, he continued to deliver Friday sermons at Jamia Masjid Ahle Hadith Wahdat Colony. After some time, at the insistence of Maulana Abdullah (may God bless him and grant him peace), he started teaching the Friday sermon in the main mosque of People's Colony. Since 1988, he has been giving Friday and Eid sermons there. A large gathering is held here on these two occasions.[5]
Compilations[edit]
Hafiz Abdul Salam bin Muhammad has a passion for teaching, public speaking, medicine and wisdom and is also closely related to writing and research. Apart from translating the Holy Qur'an into easy-to-understand Urdu, He has also written a four-volume Tafsir of the Holy Qur'an called Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Kareem. Apart from this, in his well-known compilations and translations, Sharh Kitab al-Jaami min Balogh al-Maram, Sharh Kitab al-Tahara min Balogh al-Maram, Tayyaba articles, Zakat and Ushr rules, Translation of Islamic Faith, Translation of Hasan al-Muslim, Why are we doing Jihad? He has written compilations like Fitnah to declare Muslims as infidels, Hindu customs and traditions among Muslims, Halal and Haram business in the light of Sharia and One religion and four religions.[6]
Custody[edit]
He is facing imprisonment despite his poor age and illness like Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and other comrades due to his affiliation with Jamaat al-Dawa. He were detained in October 2019. He is accused of financing terrorists[7] The Anti-Terrorism Court of Lahore sentenced him to one year imprisonment and a fine of twenty thousand rupees in June 2020 in a similar case.[8]However, two months later, in August 2020, the Lahore High Court suspended his sentence and issued an order to release him on bail.[9] But two weeks later, a special anti-terrorism court sentenced him to a total of 16-and-a-half years in prison and a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh on another charge of terrorist financing.[10] Due to the cases filed against him, he is serving jail time in the custody of Sheikhupura Jail.
