Basheer Rifat Saeed (Arabic: بشير رفعت سعيد) (born 1972) is an Egyptian poet. He graduated from the English Department of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Tanta in 1993. He was an English teacher in Kafr El Sheikh Educational Department, then he got a degree in Arabic Literature in 1998. He received a master's degree in Arabic literature from the University of Tanta in 2007 for his dissertation "The Poetry of the Paradox in the Poem of Maid al-Barghouti". He then received a Ph.D. in Arabic literature in 2013 for his dissertation "From Writing to Documented Oral". He started writing poetry at a very young age while studying at primary school when he was only nine years old. He stopped writing poetry for some time until he reached high school. He started to read poetry more, and his talent began to emerge even further.

Bashir produced several poetic diwans, and selections of his poems have been translated into French. In addition, he translated selections of poetry written in English. He received a full-time grant from the Egyptian Ministry of Culture in the field of literature from October 2005 to June 2008. He is a member of the Egypt Writers' Union.

Literary works

Bashir Rifat wrote and translated many books that varied between poetry and story collections, including:

• "Deer reconciled and the hunters quarreled" (original title: Al-Ghezlan estalahat wa ekhtasam alsayadoon) (poetry): published in 2000.
• “The sky is hiding it’s bells” (original title: Alsamaa tukhabee ajrasaha) (poetry): published in 2004 and won the Dubai Cultural Award.
• “Stories garden” (original title: Bustan Alhekayat) (translated stories for children).
• “Peel the music” (original title: Oqasher almuseqa) (poetry): published in 2011 by the General Authority for Cultural Palaces.
• “Marrakesh wedding” (original title: Ors Marakheshi) (poetry): published in 2003 in Cairo.
• “Diamond whisper” (original title: Hams Almas): The book contained a collection of poems translated from the poetry of Mark Strand; the poet nicknamed The Prince of poets of America.
• “He performs his betrayals faithfully” (original title: UAdi kheyanatuh beAmanah) (poetry): Published in 2020 by the Egyptian General book organization, it included about 40 poems, including: Against the angel- The art of honesty- Interpretation of silk- tree case- the misery of the calligrapher- sleeper cells- Talk of Arafa- Hemingway’s plight- Start a friendship- Visit of Mr. Snake Pyramid of Cheops.

Awards

In both Egypt and the Arab world, Bashir Rifat has received many honors and awards in the field of poetry, the most important of which are:

• Creative cultural award in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in 2003/2004.
• First prize in the classical Arabic poems in Egypt in 2000/2001.
• First prize for eloquent poetry in 2001.
• First prize for poetry in the United Arab Emirates.
• The first edition of Dar Al Tahrir printing and publishing competition in partnership with the Ministry of culture for the best poetry book was published in the last five years for its book "peel the music" in 2012.
• Egypt Writers Union award in translation in its 2007/2006 Edition for his book “Diamond whisper".
• The Festival of Arab poets honoring, was held at the palace of culture of Kafr el-Sheikh in 2017 and organized by the Kafr el-Sheikh Literature Club.
• Egypt Writers Union award in classical poetry in its 2019/2018 Edition for his Diwan "Marrakchi wedding".
