Early Life & Education[edit]
Hajra Bano was born on October 15, 1998, in Barabanki, Lucknow, India. She experienced significant hardship early in life, losing her father, Faquir Mohammad Jahara, at the age of five. This loss led to financial difficulties that ultimately resulted in her placement at the Gulshan-e-Banaat Orphanage, operated by the Jammu Kashmir Yateem Trust.
Despite these challenges, Hajra excelled academically. She completed her schooling at the Banaat Institute of Education School in Kashmir, where she graduated from the 12th grade with distinction. Her academic achievements laid the foundation for her future career in healthcare.
Career[edit]
Hajra pursued General Nursing and Midwifery at the Government Ancillary Medical Training, Shreenbagh, Srinagar. Her commitment to the nursing profession was driven by a deep desire to help others, inspired by the care and support she received during her own difficult childhood.
In 2024, Hajra was awarded the International Excellence Award in the female category, recognizing her outstanding contributions to nursing and her role as a leader and advocate for those facing adversity.
Advocacy and Writing[edit]
In addition to her work in healthcare, Hajra Bano is an accomplished author and advocate for specially abled individuals and care leavers. Born with hearing loss, she has used her personal experiences to shed light on the challenges faced by people with disabilities, particularly those who grow up in orphanages.
Hajra has written two books: Journey from Darkness to Light and Who Am I: Breaking Barriers as a Specially Abled Care Leaver. These works offer a powerful account of her life and serve as a platform for raising awareness about the struggles of specially abled care leavers.
Her advocacy extends to her involvement in initiatives like LIFT (Learning in Fellowship Together) and the Udayan Care New Delhi project, "Problems Faced by Specially Abled Care Leavers." Through these efforts, she seeks to improve the support systems available to care leavers with disabilities and to promote greater societal inclusion.
Personal Life[edit]
Hajra Bano is known for her diverse interests and balanced approach to life. Despite her love for sweets, she practices strict dietary discipline. She enjoys traditional Kashmiri cuisine, with Wazwaan being among her favorite dishes. Her leisure activities include watching performances by her favorite actors, Lee Min-ho and Yang Yang, and listening to the music of Lata Mangeshkar. Hajra also admires sports personalities like Cristiano Ronaldo, whose determination and success mirror her own life journey.
