Syed Hakim Ali Shah Bukhari (Sindhi: سيد حاڪم علي شاھ بخاري‎ ,Urdu: سید حاکم علی شاہ بخاری‎), (15 February 1938 – 13 May 2021) was a prominent Pakistani archaeologist[1], writer, historian and research scholar.[2] He has written several books, which are published in Sindhi and English.[3][4][5][6]

Early life[edit]

Hakim Ali Shah Bukhari was born on 15 February 1938 to Syed Hajan Shah Bukhari[7] at Ghulam Chandio village, Dadu District, Sindh, Pakistan. Ustad Bukhari was his elder brother. He finished his early education at Ghulam Chandio village. He completed his higher education from the University of Sindh. He finished his postgraduate studies in Archaeology from the University of Peshawar in 1968.[3]

Services[edit]

Bukhari was appointed a clerk in Dadu revenue development in 1957. Later he became a teacher at a high school in Johi in 1964. He served as a gallery assistant at Mohenjo-daro and received promotions during service. He served at Mohenjo-daro until his retirement in 1998. For conducting field research work, he went to Italy, Japan and United Kingdom where he trained in the field of Archaeology. Bukhari had supervised the excavations carried out in KPK in 1968, in Balochistan in 1970 and in Sindh in 1973. He served on the board of governors' body in the Sindhi Language Authority in Hyderabad, including other organizations. He did field work and authored many books.[4][8] He recognized him self as an expert archaeologist.[9]

Death[edit]

Hakim Ali Shah died on 13 May 2021 at the age of 83 years.[3]
