Hasan Abd Allah Sharafi (1944 - 25 May 2020)[2] was a poet and a writer from Yemen. He is one of the most well-known Yemeni poets in the twentieth century. He was distinguished by the great number of literary production. He showed a clear mastery and an exceptional ability to subjugate the language. In addition to his rich vocabulary, which enabled him to write all kinds of poetry.[3]
Sharafi was born in 1944 in the village of Al-Shahely in Hajjah Governorate, located in northwestern Yemen. He died in Sana'a on Monday May 25, 2020. He began writing poems in 1958 at an early age, while he was still a student at the scientific school in Al-Mahashsha. His completion of memorizing the Holy Qur’an and the requirements of the Arabic language helped him to graduate from the Scientific School and enroll in the Teachers' House in the capital, in Sana’a. With the start of the Yemeni Revolution on September 26, 1962, he and a group of his colleagues were assigned to introduce the republic and its goals and features in the areas that were still under the control of the royalists. During the seven turbulent years that followed the Yemeni Revolution in 1962, he worked as a teacher in addition to some free jobs such as construction, sewing and medicine, and he continued until 1970.
After that, he joined the government within the Ministry of Local Administration in several positions. One of the most recent jobs was the Director of the Aflah Al Yaman District in Hajjah Governorate. In 1994, he wanted to devote himself to writing and literature, so he moved to Sana’a to be a researcher at the Center for Studies and Research. Until 2002, he retired from government work and established a literary council that was held in his home until his death.
The poet Hassan Abdullah Al-Sharafi issued his first collection "From the Forest" (original text: Min Al-Ghaba) to complete the introduction Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Makhadi before five years, in 1973. Al-Makhadi did not complete the collection; the concerned authorities did not approve some of the poems of the Court. The poet insisted on printing it without deletion, which was done in 1978.

Sharafi has received many awards, including the Ministry of Culture’s Poetry Prize and the Al-Hudaydah Governorate Award. His name has also been announced in more than one occasion by the Ministry of Culture, the Yemeni House of Poetry and some local universities. He apologized for participating in them because he believes that the most appropriate honor for an intellectual is by making his writings available for the readers, researchers and critics to facilitate the arrival of those interested in those works. It is not by a ceremony of honoring, scholarships and medals that do not bring real benefit to the cultural movement.
