A Tunisian writer, born in Halfaouine, one of popular neighborhood in Tunis, on February 4, 1937,[1][2][3][4] he studied at the Quranic school and then at the Zaytuna Mosque. He took some free professional crafts. Then he worked as a teacher for a short period, after that he joined the College of Arts in Baghdad, then stopped continuing his studies and returned to teaching again in secondary institutes. He spent more than three decades of life in this profession and then he retired.

Biography[edit]

With the beginning of work, he began writing a number of texts in the Tunisian newspaper “Al-Alam”. The first short story was in 1959 entitled: “dameatu kahl” (a tear of a middle-aged man), It appeared in Al-Fikr magazine, this story will print the theme and the style of a period known in the history of Tunisian literature as the literature of resistance against the French colonizer.” layali al matar” (The Nights of Rain collection) is the best evidence of this period. In this collection, he also touched on social issues, individual crises, intergenerational conflict and other worlds, without some of them devoid of existentialism. He also wrote a very short story, which he named “qisatun toqrae fi daqiqa” ( a story that you read in one minute), most of stories were published in the supplement of al amal al thaqafi newspaper” (the cultural work newspaper) on a weekly basis. These stories reflect the two cases of the setback left by the 1967 war on the one hand, and the disappointment left by the socialist experience in Tunisia on the other. Also, some of these stories expose in a surreal way how pressure devices work on human beings. During that period, he wrote the novel “dahaliz al layl” (lobbies of the Night) which takes place in Mahdia city, and which tells about the socialist experience in the marine fishing sector. After years of quitting writing, Hassan Nasr returned and published a novel, “khobz al ard” (The Bread of the Earth), in which he spoke about man's attachment to the land and peasants’ tragedy. He stopped writing again, and then returned and published his beautiful novel, “Dar Al-Basha” (the pasha's house)
