Headfonics is an audio review site with a focus on independently researched and written-format reviews covering all aspects of portable and desktop audio, with a noted focus on headphones and IEMs.
Its reviews use a ranking and scoring system that allows readers to input their own product review scores alongside the author's score.
These scores contribute to their long-running end-of-year Top Gear and Bang For Buck Awards, cited by companies such as Vision Ears,[1] Empire Ears,[2] and Focal North America.[3]
Headfonics has also been cited in reviews and product launches by large-scale organizations and publications such as Forbes[4] and Drop.
History
Headfonics originated from the now-defunct Filipino national forum called Headphiles.org, which operated from 2008 to 2014 and is now an information-based Karaoke website.
It was founded by Marcus Downey in April 2011 with a specific focus on publishing in-depth and independent audio product reviews originally posted in Headphiles but missed by readers when navigating the forum pages.
The website was also developed as a means to reach out to product manufacturers to give readers more focused information on specific portable audio products that they were interested in.
Since 2011, Headfonics has expanded beyond the national scene to become a globally known brand among the portable audio community and has been a visible media sponsor of the CanJam Global portable audio trade show in Singapore since 2017.[5]
In the last 12 years since its inception, Headfonics has grown from a national hobbyist review website to an international independent portable audio review website, with over 450k readers per month.[6] It also has an active social media presence, with 20k followers on Facebook reaching up to 50k readers a week and 4k followers on Twitter.
