Heidi Saadiya is a journalist, actor, transgender rights activist and a youtuber. She is known for being Kerala's first transgender national television newsreader on Kairali TV.[1][2][3] Saadiya is the first transwoman journalism student in the state.[4]
Early life
Heidi was born into an orthodox Muslim family at Chavakkad in Thrissur district of Kerala and she grew up in Ponnani, Malappuram.[2] At the age of ten, she realised that her sexual identity. Heidi said to The News Minute that "I had a condition called gynecomastia". She was disowned by her family who rejected her gender identity, at the age of 18. She left her home, and has not been in contact with her family since then.[5]
Heidi completed here under graduation in bachelor or arts from Indira Gandhi National Open University[6] and post graduation from Institute of Journalism. She is the first transwoman journalist to graduate from the institution.[7]
Career
Saadiya started her career as a trainee journalist on Kairali TV. Later she was promoted and her first live was about Chandrayaan-2 lander.[8]
Personal life
In 2019, Heidi began a romantic relationship with Atharv and he proposed her on December.[9] On 26 January 2020, Heidi married Atharv at TDM Hall in Ernakulam on the 71st Republic Day under the Special Marriage Act. The wedding was jointly organised by Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust and Ernakulam NSS Karayogam.[10]
In July 2022, Heidi declared that the couple is divorced through her official Youtube channel.[11]
