Hertensteiner Talks
The Hertensteiner Talks[1] (German: Hertensteiner Gespräche) were initiated in 2016, not only to remember the Hertensteiner Program, but also to reestablish the former Hertensteiner Talks which took place from 14. to 22. September 1946 in Bern and Hertenstein (Weggis) Switzerland. The initiator of the new Hertensteiner Talks is the local Heilbronn section of the European Federalists (UEF) based in Heilbronn Germany, where nowadays the talks take place annually in September. The Hertensteiner Talks and their resulting manifest (Hertensteiner Program) from 21. September 1946 is the main event, which lead to the creation of the European Federalists in Paris, France 1946 and the World Federalist Movement (WFM) in Montreux, Switzerland 1947.[2]
History[edit]
While the original Hertensteiner Talks took place in Switzerland 1946, the new 1. Hertensteiner Talks took place in Heilbronn from 4. to 5. November 2017, and it was decided to continue the talks annually each September. The 2. Hertensteiner Talks took place from 22. to 23. September 2018, and the 3. Hertensteiner Talks on 21. September 2019.
Since the 2. Hertensteiner Talks all federalist levels (local, regional, national, and European) but the WFM level take part. Since the new location is in Germany the working language is still German. The organisers are prepared to add English and French as additional working languages, as soon as it is asked for by the participants.
The Idea[edit]
The main aim of the Hertensteiner Talks is to inform all participants about the ideas of the Hertensteiner Program, to discuss these ideas including their consequences as of today, and to create a modern approach since the world developed further in the last 70 years.
In addition the talks are organised to make democratic processes more transparent, and to promote the federalist approach of democracy.
Therefore the Hertensteiner Talks will last in total twelve years. The first ten years are foreseen to cover different topics, while the 11. Hertensteiner Talks should discuss the outcome of the first ten talks and to draft a first manifest, which is o be discussed about during the 12. (and final) Hertensteiner Talks.
In case this new and sustainable approach of discussion is accepted by the federalist community (WFM, UEF and other organisations) it is planned that the Hertensteiner Talks will move back to their original place in Hertenstein (Switzerland) to become a permanent federalist event.
