Dr. Himani Narang (Hindi:डॉक्टर हिमानी नारंग) populaarly known as Himani Narang (Hindi:डॉक्टर हिमानी नारंग)(born December 10, 1984), a leading Kathak exponent (Kathak : The classical Dance form of India).
Early life and background[edit]
Dr Himani Narang was born on 10 December 1984 in the house of Mrs Jyoti and Mr Ram Mohan Narang in Ghaziabad. She being a dentist[1] by profession has been gifted with passion towards Kathak. She has been learning Kathak since the Age of 3, her first school being her home. Himani proceeded to be trained in the intricacies of kathak from Shri Tapan Roy, at Bhatkhande Sangeet Mahavidyalaya.[2] She has learned the nuances of Kathak. She is learning under the guidance of Guru Mahua Shankar, senior disciple of Pt. Birju Maharaj[3] and a well known Kathak dancer.
Dr Himani has attended Kathak workshops organized by Pt. Birju Maharaj where she got the chance of expanding her horizons and learning more about the dance form.
Education in dance[edit]
She passed the Junior Diploma, Senior Diploma, Prabhakar, Praveen from Prayag Sangeet Samiti,[4] Allahabad. Visharad and Nipun levels from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith,[5] Lucknow and Bachelors as well as Masters of Arts in Kathak Dance from Inderakala Sangeet Khairagarh University,[6] Madhya Pradesh.
She judges dance competitions and events at prestigious institutions.
Her Kathak video has been sent to Italy by her school principal under an Indian culture awareness programme.
In 2008, she entered the competition organised by ‘Sangeet Naatak Academy’[7] in Lucknow. Holding the judges and audiences to their seats throughout her performance she won the competition, across the cream of the nation. To honour the winners of Sangeet Naatak Academy competition a ceremony ‘NAVANKUR SAMAROH’[8] was held where her performance was well applauded.
Performances[edit]
Dr Himani has performed many professional ballets like Vibhranti, Marutrishna, Navchetna and has also done quite a few number of solo performances. She has performed at the Ankur Dance Festival, Indore and Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts[9] at New Delhi, SNA Samaroh,[7]Varanasi, Swami Haridas Samaroh[10] Vrindavan, Dance and Music Festival[11] Jhansi, Panchmarhi Festival[12] Jhansi which won a lot of appreciation. She has also presented Lecture Demonstration on Kathak Dance at Voice Modulation and Music Therapy Conference. Her performance for India China Society at Constitutional Club of India[13] was very well applauded.
Dr. Himani is an Empanelled artist with the India World Cultural Forum[14] and a Jury member for Sangeet Natak Academy,[7] Uttar Pradesh. She has performed at many Spic Macay[14] conferences and held Kathak Workshops across the Country.
