Holly Rhiannon (born Holly Kindzierski, formerly known as Holly Halftone) is a Canadian writer, artist, and photographer, based in Montreal, Quebec.[1]
Early life and education
She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and attended Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba before earning a photography certification from Red River College.[2]
Career
Early work
Kindzierski worked in sales at the University of Manitoba Bookstore.[3] During this time, she also worked as an artist, photographer, and model.[2] Author Chadwick Ginther, who was her coworker at the bookstore, used her as the inspiration for the femme-fatale character in his story "The Last Good Look", published in The Exile Book of New Canadian Noir.[4]
Under the name Holly Halftone, she appeared in the 2011 film Father's Day, produced by Troma Entertainment.[5]
In July 2011, she co-founded Drawn and Plastered with Meg Bergeron, a monthly themed art event in Winnipeg.[6] The event was inspired by Dr. Sketchy's Anti-art School and featured live models in costume, performances, and opportunities for artists of all skill levels to participate.[6] By 2013, the event had expanded to include a creative team and had hosted eighteen shows at various venues throughout Winnipeg.[7] She relocated to Montreal in 2015.[8]
Writing and publishing
In June 2021, under the name Holly Halftone, she hosted the virtual book launch for comic book colorist Lovern Kindzierski's graphic novel Hell's Flaw, the fifth book in the Shame series.[9]
Rhiannon published her debut novel, A Time When Demons, in 2022.[10]
In 2023, Rhiannon co-founded The Stygian Society, an independent publishing press. The press's first publication, The Stygian Collection, was funded through Kickstarter with seventy-three backers raising $6,761.[11] She contributed to The Stygian Collection (2023), an anthology published by The Stygian Society. She also contributed to 13 Haunted Nights (2024), an anthology that included contributions from theatre historian Donovan King and Kindzierski.
Rhiannon served as Montreal's Municipal Liaison for National Novel Writing Month for three years.[12] In 2024, she founded The Order of the Written Word, a writing challenge community.[13][12][14]
Media work
Rhiannon hosts the English-language videos for Haunted Montreal, a bilingual YouTube channel that adapts ghost stories researched by theatre historian Donovan King into atmospheric video narratives.[15]
